Hyderabad: The Telangana High Court on Thursday stayed the election process of entire Advocates Bar Associations across the State until March 4.

Justice B Vijaysen Reddy was dealing with a writ plea filed by the 25 Advocates Bar Associations led by Ranga Reddy Advocates Bar Association challenging the actions of Bar Council of India and Telangana State Bar Council for imposing the model byelaws on the Petitioners associations and alike associations in the State of Telangana.

The contention of the petitioners was that despite each Bar association having its own by-laws and being registered under the Societies Registration Act, the Bar Council of Telangana imposed model bye-laws on all 110 bar associations in the State.

The petitioners told the court that a resolution was passed by all general bodies of bar associations to extend the term of the executive body from one year to two years and when the same proposal was sent to the Bar Council, the same was rejected, stating that sucha  resolution is not maintainable.

Moreover, the Bar Council also issued a memo directing all associations to complete the election process by March 31. Hearing the same, the judge by passing the aforementioned directions, adjourned the matter to March 4 for further hearing.
