Hyderabad: The city has long had its tryst with the Nepali gangs comprising men and women who strike with ease in the houses of their employers, loot property and head back only to disappear into the mountainous region.

In the last couple of years, the gang has struck the rich by committing property crimes at the houses of rich families such as businessmen and retired bureaucrats. The police have managed to crack some burglaries while a few cases remain unsolved as the suspects have crossed the international border and sneaked back into Nepal.

Two months ago, in March, a Nepali couple had committed theft of valuables worth Rs. 2 crore from the house of a businessman. A case was registered in Jubilee Hills police station and police are still making efforts to nab the Nepali couple servants, who are suspected of committing the burglary.

In February, the Jubilee Hills police however were lucky enough to have cracked a case of Nepali gang and arrested five members of an eight member gang who targeted households of rich businessmen. The gang arranged for a job for one of the gang members in the house of the target family and later on getting an opportunity to sedate the family members or the other servants and loot property.

In November last year, the Task Force police caught five members of Nepali gang who had looted 23 tolas of gold and Rs. 95,000 in cash from the house of a retired Army Captain located at Karkhana Secunderabad. The police, a month later, arrested the suspects.

In April last year, a Nepali gang drugged a family staying at Kachiguda and looted one kilogram of gold and Rs. 60 lakh in cash from the house. The gang is still absconding and the police believe the offenders have escaped to Nepal.
