Peddapalli: Hindu organisations under the banner of Hindu Ikya Vedika staged a dharna at the Ramagundam Municipal Corporation office on Friday, protesting against the demolition of Daari Maisamma temples within the municipal limits.

Protesters demanded action against officials responsible for the demolition. Municipal authorities, with police support, demolished about 46 Daari Maisamma temples located on or along roads using five JCBs. The operation, covering shrines from Godavarikhani Chowk to Five Incline, Vitalnagar, NTPC, and other routes, was carried out between 2 am and 5 am on Thursday.

Angered by the move, BJP, Vishwa Hindu Parishad, Bajrang Dal, and others under the Hindu Ikya Vedika banner performed special poojas at a Maisamma temple at Godavarikhani Chowk. They said the sentiments of Hindu devotees were hurt by the action of municipal officials and demanded the suspension of the Municipal Commissioner. A complaint was also lodged with the police.

BRS leaders condemned the demolition and sought an apology from local MLA Makkan Singh Raj Takur, accusing him of being responsible for the act.

Ikya Vedika members held a meeting in Godavarikhani to chalk out further agitation plans, after which they staged a dharna at the municipal office. Police deployed heavy force to prevent any untoward incident.
