Adilabad: Hindu religious organisations called for a bandh of commercial establishments, demanding stringent action against those who assaulted two girls, two women and a devotee of Durga Devi during a clash in Bhagatsingh Nagar here on Friday.
The organisations alleged that the devotee, women and girls were assaulted by unidentified persons from a particular community and that a sacred thread was snapped, hurting the religious sentiments of Hindus during the clash. They wanted the police to identify the assailants and take stern action against the perpetrators. They urged commercial establishments to remain closed for a day.
Meanwhile, the police clarified that the attack was due to previous enmity and that a case had already been registered and an investigation taken up. The devotee initially attacked a person, resulting in the clash, which was recorded on a CCTV camera. Two persons belonging to the Hindu community and one belonging to the Muslim community were involved in the brawl.
The police further said that the accused persons had been detained. They urged the public not to believe rumours being spread on social media platforms. They requested people not to brand the incident as communal. They stated that the Police 30 Act was in force and that action would be initiated against those who disturbed the peace.
