New Delhi: Mobile device maker HMD will launch Vibe 2 5G smartphone this month, which will be the first phone to integrate India’s AI platform developed by government-backed Sarvam AI, a senior company official said.
HMD Vice President, India and APAC, Ravi Kunwar, told PTI that HMD already has a leading value share in the feature phone market, and with Vibe 2 5G, the company plans to capture more market share in the smartphone segment.
“We will launch Vibe 2 5G this month exclusively with Flipkart. It will come integrated with Sarvam AI. We know that the future of AI in smartphones cannot be limited to English-speaking users alone. Through our integration with Sarvam and its 13-language capability, HMD aims to democratise AI for millions of Indians across metros, smaller towns and first-time smartphone users,” he said.
The company expects the strategy around Vibe 2 5G will help it grow sales by 3 times compared to the first version of the device.
“There’s been a 20 to 30 per cent increase in the price of smartphones or probably in some cases more. Having said that, our idea is that Vibe 2 5G will be positioned at a price where it is appealing to mass, value which the consumer sees, especially the first-time buyer, the feature phone upgraders and the Gen Z and the Millennial,” he said.
