Hyderabad: Officials of the Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWSSB) are gearing up to undertake emergency pumping at Singur to meet the city’s water supply demand.

On Friday, HMWSSB Managing Director K Ashok Reddy reviewed the emergency pumping arrangements being undertaken at the Singur Reservoir and examined the emergency pump set alignment work in the Patancheru Transmission Division-2 area with representatives of the concerned agency and officials, according to a press release.

“Officials said the water level in the Singur Reservoir stood at 516.080 feet, with available water storage capacity recorded at 5.477 TMC. Officials explained to the Managing Director that steps were being taken to initiate emergency pumping at a partial level from June 1, and that around 5.340 TMC of water storage was available at the reservoir’s 516.00 feet water level,” it said.

Ashok Reddy instructed officials to ensure the emergency pumping system was ready on time and suggested coordinating the completion of pump set alignment, power supply, mechanical and electrical works to start emergency pumping within the stipulated deadline.

He also advised officials to maintain quality in the work and strictly adhere to safety standards. He instructed them to continuously monitor progress at every stage and promptly resolve any technical issues that arose, according to the press release.

Singur is one of the drinking water sources for the city, along with Osman Sagar, Himayat Sagar, Godavari, Krishna and Manjeera. Over five lakh consumers are getting potable water from Singur sources.
