Hyderabad: Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWSSB) said drinking water supply would be interrupted for 36 hours in parts of Hyderabad from 6 am on November 3 for repairs to the century-old Osman Sagar conduit. It assured consumers that the shortfall would be met from other sources.
The work, scheduled to conclude at 6 pm on November 4, will address leakages near Sabza Colony, Tolichowki and Manikonda. The stone conduit carries 20 million gallons per day from Osman Sagar, also known as Gandipet, a press release said.
The disruption will be limited to areas dependent on the Gandipet conduit, while supply from other sources will continue as usual. HMWSSB supplies about 560 million gallons per day to Hyderabad from the Krishna and Godavari rivers, the Singur-Manjira project, Himayat Sagar and Osman Sagar.
Affected areas include Red Hills, Nampally, Mallepally, Seetarambagh, Ghode-ki-Khabar, Hindi Nagar, the Assembly area, Secretariat, New MLA Quarters, Adarsh Nagar, Nampally South Central Railway area, Gunfoundry, Chintal Basti, Vijayanagar Colony, Old Mallepally, Asif Nagar, Ahmed Nagar, Domalguda, Kawadiguda, Gandhi Nagar and Banjara Hills ward in Jubilee Hills.
HMWSSB advised consumers to store sufficient water in advance and use it sparingly.
