Hyderabad: The operation and maintenance (O&M) of the sewerage system in the peripheral circles of the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) will be taken up by the Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWS&SB) from October 1.
According to an office memorandum issued by GHMC, the activity was being handed back to the water board as per the instructions of Municipal Administration and Urban Development Minister KT Rama Rao. As on date, all O&M of sewage systems within the city are being handled by the HMWS&SB while the GHMC takes care of peripheral areas.
Meanwhile, a meeting pertaining to O&M of the sewerage system was held here on Tuesday and attended by GHMC commissioner DS Lokesh Kumar, HMWS&SB Managing Director Dana Kishore and other officials.
Most of the discussion in the meeting pertained to handing over sewerage O&M along with the staff and machinery, coordination between two departments and grievance redressal.
“Though HMWS&SB has 24 Hours Customer Care- 55 313 an additional number will be made operational for reporting grievances,” said Dana Kishore. HMWS&SB in a press release said that for O&M in peripheral areas, the expenditure every month sums to Rs 12 crore which will be paid by GHMC . The civic body shall also hand over the 24 airtech machines, 66 mini airtech machines used for sewer cleaning.
