Holi celebrated with traditional enthusiasm in erstwhile Adilabad

Revellers gathered in junctions of streets for celebrating the festival in Adilabad, Mancherial, Nirmal and Kumram Bheem Asifabad district centres from early morning till afternoon

Adilabad: Holi, the festival of colours was celebrated with traditional enthusiasm across the erstwhile Adilabad district on Friday.

Revellers gathered in junctions of streets for celebrating the festival in Adilabad, Mancherial, Nirmal and Kumram Bheem Asifabad district centres from early morning till afternoon. They sprinkled water mixed with various colors on each other. They bathed in nearby streams and rivers to wash off colours.


Collectors Rajarshi Shah, Venkatesh Dhotre, Kumar Deepak and Abhilasha Abhinav, Superintendents of Police Akhil Mahajan, Dr Janaki Sharmila, D Srinivas Rao and DCP A Bhaskar took part in the celebrations in district headquarters of the four districts. They advised the celebrators to take precautions while celebrating the festival.

Setting their designations aside for a while, Shah, Mahajan, Dothre joined the celebrators by smearing colours to the officials, members of TNGOs and press persons. They danced to drum beats, rousing the spirit of the revellers. Camp offices of these Collectors usually busy with meetings and tele-conferences turned seas of colours.

Members of the Marwari community conducted ‘Dhundh’ ritual, which was similar to the naming ceremony, in Mancherial town as part of colorful Holi celebrations. They fed the participants and offered cool drinks. They danced to traditional songs. The roads and streets witnessed grand celebrations. Outlets of meat and liquor registered brisk sales.

In the meantime, tribals shared dried coconuts and the natural food items among themselves in tribal habitations as part of celebrations of the festival celebrated in Adilabad and Kumram Bheem Asifabad districts. Tribal habitations came alive with the dwellers taking part in colourful celebrations.
