Kothagudem: A seven-year-old boy from Hyderabad drowned in Godavari river at Bhadrachalam while taking a holy dip with his family members on Saturday.

Akhil Goud had come to Bhadrachalam along with his parents, Swapna and Dhanunjay Goud, and other relatives from Ramanthapur in Hyderabad to offer prayers at the Sri Seetha Ramachandra Swamy Devasthanam. Prior to visiting Bhadrachalam, the family had travelled to Vijayawada in Andhra Pradesh.

Before heading for the darshan, the family went to the river for holy bath. During the dip, Akhil is believed to have ventured deeper into the water and drowned. By the time the family realised, he was missing, it was too late.

Local police registered a case and began investigation into the incident.
