Hyderabad: A woman, who allegedly attempted to die by suicide at the Saroornagar Lake along with her children, was rescued by M.Eswaraiah, Home Guard Officer of Saroornagar police on Wednesday. This was the 20th such rescue by Eswaraiah so far this year at the spot.
The woman, aged 35 years, was allegedly upset over family problems and her husband’s harassment, and decided to end her life. She came to the tank along with her son and daughter and tried to end her life by jumping into it. In the meanwhile, her relatives learned that she was on the way to the lake and informed the Saroornagar police, after which Eswaraiah, the home guard officer who was on duty at the police outpost in the area, rushed to the spot.
“He reached them within a few minutes of being alerted and rescued the mother and children,” police said, adding that she was counseled and further handed over to her family members.
Rachakonda Police Commissioner Mahesh M.Bhagwat appreciated Eswaraiah for his timely response and said he would be suitably rewarded.
Eswaraiah has saved at least 20 lives until now, officials said, with most of them being of those who tried to die by suicide in the lake.
