Hyderabad: Alleged harassment for dowry is suspected to have led a 28-year-old woman to commit suicide after allegedly jumping off a multi-storied building at Nagaram in Keesara here late on Sunday night. The woman, identified as P Satya Santhoshi (28), a BTech graduate, had a love marriage with K Pawan Bhagwan (28), a private employee with whom she was in love since their engineering college days. At the time of their wedding, Santhoshi’s family gave cash and gold ornaments as dowry to Pawan. However, Pawan, his mother Kameshwari and sister Sarada allegedly began harassing Santhoshi for additional dowry soon after.
“They demanded money from her to make investments and harassed her both mentally and physically,” police said. After an argument between the couple on Sunday night, Santhoshi left the house without informing anyone and went to the 10th floor of a multi-storied building nearby, from where she allegedly jumped to death. Based on a complaint from her father T Raju, the Keesara police booked a case of dowry death and took up investigation.
