Hyderabad: An autorickshaw driver won laurels for his honesty in returning a bag containing gold ornaments and cash that a passenger had forgotten in his vehicle on Thursday.
According to the police, Sujatha R Hiremath (43), a resident of Gulbarga, Karnataka, approached Saifabad Police Station stating that while travelling from Narsingi to Birla Mandir in an autorickshaw, she accidentally left her bag in the vehicle. The bag contained 6.5 tolas of gold ornaments and Rs. 3,500 in cash.
Following the complaint, under the supervision of Saifabad SHO A Seethaiah, a team comprising constables K Vinay Kumar and Madan Mohan swung into action and, after verifying CCTV footage, traced the autorickshaw and contacted the driver, K Nagesh, within one hour.
The autorickshaw driver, Nagesh, a resident of Chintal Basthi, Khairatabad, responded promptly and confirmed that the bag was safe on the back seat. He reached the police station and handed over the gold and cash intact.
The property was subsequently restored to the complainant. The SHO, Saifabad, appreciated the honesty of the autorickshaw driver and presented him with a cash reward for his integrity.
