Hyderabad: Prime Volleyball League team Hyderabad Black Hawks owner Abhishek Reddy is hoping that at least three to four Indian players will be seen in action in the European leagues in the near future. Expressing his delight over the response to the inaugural edition of the league, Abhishek said that the league will work as a catalyst to popularise the game in the country.
“India has a lot of talent when it comes to volleyball. The league will help popularise the game. I can only see the game grow from here. The league is being followed across the country today. And the way the league is being telecast on television, it generated interest in many people. I see young people taking to the game every day. The league also provides a great platform for the players to showcase their talent. These volleyball players will become household names in the future,” he said.
Abhishek also felt that Indian players have a lot of potential. “I am sure the league is being watched by many across the globe. I think at least a few Indian players will be picked up by the teams to play in European leagues. That will be a big boost to the league and for the players. It will provide them with extra motivation to do well.”
He revealed that the league’s main aim is to popularise the game in the country and bring back the old glory. “Our city had a lot of volleyball players in the national team in the past. We want to see those glory days again. We are also planning to conduct the tournaments at the grassroots level in all districts of Telangana and scout talent. We will have more local players in our team in the future,” he asserted.
Black Hawks are the only team that has a foreign coach and the Indian players got a good opportunity to learn the tricks from one of the best in the business. “Hyderabad’s coach Ruben Wolochin (from Argentina) has over 30 years of experience in coaching. We could not do much in terms of team selection in auctions with the cap on players’ salaries. But we wanted to give them the best coach. We scouted and zeroed in on Ruben. The Indians players got an opportunity to train with such an experienced coach. It is a big boost for them,” he added.
