How pandemic helped Aruna Raj Varma turn a new leaf
Meet this inspiring Hyderabadi homemaker, who changed her physical appearance completely in just one year
Hyderabad: It all started during the first wave of the pandemic. Like any new mother, Aruna Raj Varma, too, had gained weight after she gave birth to her twins, and the process continued until she reached 115 kilos. A girl who loved clicking selfies literally stopped stepping in front of the mirror.
“Initially, I tried walking but kept coming up with reasons – like it’s raining, I have my period and gyms are closed – to not do it and would stop for a few weeks. I went into depression too. That’s when I thought ‘enough is enough’. I made up my mind that I shouldn’t skip my exercise and started to research on weight loss programme,” shares Aruna who initially had severe body pains and suffered from fever too!
“But my only motive was not to stop and the result was magical. In the first month itself, I lost six kilos. That’s it, I didn’t stop till date,” adds Aruna, who lost 50 kilos in one year.
To keep up her commitment, Aruna started to upload her exercising videos on her YouTube channel which she named ‘Ismart Aruna Lifestyle Vlogs’. For many months, Aruna had few followers but has now garnered more than 53k followers on her YouTube channel.
Her channel consists of ‘One Week Beginners Challenges’ where she shows basic exercises for those who are new to workouts. Currently, she is running a live ‘100 days abs challenge’ to remove that ‘mummy tummy’. Aruna’s challenges are live on YouTube from 6 am to 7 am.
The YouTuber mom also responds to every query from her viewers and followers. She has created a Facebook page named ‘Fitness Freak Family’ where she guides followers on diet and exercises for free. Aruna also takes personal training sessions on Google Meet and her WhatsApp group, where she guides people one-on-one, along with her nutritionist friend Anusha, for minimal charges.
Within a short span of one year, Aruna received many prestigious awards like Narisena Global Women Forum Women Achiever award in 2020, Dermic Clinic Best Women Achiever Award, and Nandi National Services Award.
