HRDA seeks five-year renewal cycle for MTP, PCPNDT centre registrations in Telangana

The Healthcare Reforms Doctors Association has urged the Telangana government to introduce a five-year renewal cycle for MTP and PCPNDT/Sterilization Centre registrations. The association said annual renewals create unnecessary paperwork, compliance costs and administrative delays for healthcare institutions.

Hyderabad: To avoid the yearly renewal cycle of permissions related to Medical Termination of Pregnancy (MTP) for private hospitals, which often leads to administrative delays, doctors have urged the State government to switch to a five-year renewal cycle.

The Healthcare Reforms Doctors Association (HRDA), Telangana on Friday in a representation submitted to Director of Public Health sought amendment of the existing rules of Medical Termination of Pregnancy (MTP) Centres and PCPNDT/Sterilization Centres to provide for a five-year renewal cycle, on par with Clinical Establishments registered under the Telangana Clinical Establishments (Registration and Regulation) Act, 2010.

Under Rule 8(2) of the Telangana Clinical Establishments Rules, 2022, hospitals have a validity period of five years. However, there is an online system for annual registration and renewal of such hospitals, under District Medical and Health Officers (DM&HOs).

Despite being regulated by the same authorities (DM&HO) and processed through the same administrative machinery, MTP and PCPNDT/Sterilization Centre registrations still require annual renewal, resulting in avoidable paperwork, compliance costs and administrative burden, HRDA said.

HRDA also urged the State government to modify online portals and provide a suitable transition mechanism for existing registrations.
