Khammam: The police arrested five persons and seized a huge quantity of explosive material from them. A manhunt has been launched for two other accused who are absconding.
Speaking to mediapersons here on Saturday, Police Commissioner Vishnu S Warrier said during a raid at Warangal crossroads on Friday evening, the Task Force and Khammam rural police arrested three persons for illegally possessing sulphur, an explosive material. Based on their confession, two others were taken into custody at Pittalavarigudem in Khammam (Rural) mandal.
A total 35 sulphur bags, 12 black powder bags, 15 mixed gunpowder bags, 270 boosters, 1000 gelatin sticks, 950 detonators, 1500 metres of fuse wire and other material worth Rs 15.60 lakh. A car, an auto rickshaw and Rs 45, 400 cash were also seized.
The accused were identified as Bodapatla Sudarshan Rao and Malaprolu Upender of Teldarpalli in Khammam rral mandal, Nakkaboina Srinu of Kodumuru in Chintakani mandal in Khammam district, N Purnachander Reddy and Matcha Ramesh of Mudugulapalli in Nalgonda district, the Police Commissioner said.
Two others, Bodapatla Rajendra Prasad and Ithagani Srinivas of Teldarpalli were absconding and efforts were on to nab them. A case under Section 5 of Explosive Substances Act was booked against the accused in Khammam Rural police station.
