Karimnagar: Finance Minister T Harish Rao on Tuesday said the Huzurabad by-election was the right occasion to teach a lesson to the BJP which was adopting anti-people’s policies.
“The BJP government at the Centre has been imposing a huge burden on the common public by increasing prices of petrol, diesel and cooking gas besides abolishing subsidies. Not satisfied with this, it is also conspiring to do away with SC, ST and OBC reservations by selling Public Sector Undertakings,” the Minister said, addressing a gathering of about 50 BJP and Congress leaders from Korapalli and Valbapur who joined the TRS in Jammikunta.
Harish Rao said while the BJP government was imposing a burden on the public, Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao was implementing a number of welfare schemes for economic and social development of different caste occupations. As part of its efforts, a sheep development scheme was launched in 2017 to distribute 20 sheep and a ram on 75 per cent subsidy to the 7.61 lakh shepherd community in the State, he said, adding that in the first phase, 79.16 lakh sheep were distributed to 3.77 lakh shepherds. “These sheep gave birth to 1.30 new sheep worth Rs 6,500 crore,” he added.
According to the 2019 animal census, Telangana was in the top spot with 1.92 crore sheep population. Besides an increase in population, 1.22 lakh tons of meat was also produced, and in the coming days, the State would be in a position to export meat, he said.
In the wake of an increase in the price of sheep, the Chief Minister increased the unit cost to Rs 1.75 lakh from Rs 1.25 lakh. In the second phase, Rs 6,125 crore worth of sheep would be distributed to 3.5 lakh shepherds, he said, adding that to empower the Yadava community politically, the Chief Minister gave the TRS ticket for the Huzurabad by-poll to Gellu Srinivas Yadav.
Stating that Huzurabad was a bastion of TRS, Harish Rao said the development of the constituency was possible only if the TRS candidate gets elected in the by-poll.
