Karimnagar: Agriculture Minister S Niranjan Reddy said on Tuesday that the result of Huzurabad by-election would give the direction for future elections in the State.

Addressing a gathering after inaugurating Rythu Vedikas in Korkal of Veenavanka mandal and Kamalapur, he said Kamalapur was always a TRS stronghold and the party was very strong in the area even before the entry of former MLA Eatala Rajender who joined the BJP recently. Advising the party cadre not to make mistakes, he said it was the responsibility of every TRS worker to protect the party. The Minister said a paddy processing unit and a cold storage centre would be established in Kamalapur.

Niranjan Reddy said that except for collecting taxes from States, the Union government was not allocating any additional funds to the States. Moreover, the Central government claimed that all schemes implemented in the State were sponsored by it. “Providing Rs 1 for one or two schemes, the Union government has been making such tall claims which is unethical,” he said.

On the three new farm laws, he said the Supreme Court has imposed a stay on them. Though the Central government led by BJP brought in the farm laws, no BJP ruled State was implementing farmer-centric policies. “Farmers in Telangana have been facing issues for several decades but the situation changed entirely after formation of Telangana State,” he said, adding that the government, according top priority to the agriculture sector, also introduced a number of schemes for the welfare of farmers.

Despite Covid pandemic, the State government has not gone back on Rythu Bandhu and procurement of paddy. Rythu Bandhu amount was deposited in the bank accounts of 60.80 lakh farmers. Of them only 6,000 farmers were having above 24 acres land.

Terming Kaleshwaram and Palamuru lift irrigation schemes as wonderful projects in the world, he said it was not an ordinary thing to complete Kaleshwaram project within three years. Delhi engineering officials were surprised after seeing the project.

People of the State elected late NT Rama Rao as Chief Minister as the latter promised to provide rice for Rs 2/kg. Now, Telangana has reached to produce lakhs of metric tonnes of paddy.

Agriculture was the only sector which was providing employment to the highest number of people. Development of the state was possible only with the growth of agriculture.

MLC Palla Rajeshwar Reddy informed that 24 Rythu Vedikas were constructed in Huzurabad constituency and nine Vedikas have to be inaugurated. No State in the country was constructing Rythu Vedikas.

Before 2014, there were farmer suicides in the State. However, the situation has changed after the formation of Telangana. A number of welfare schemes including Rythu Bandhu, Rythu Bhima, free current and other schemes have been implemented for the welfare of farmers.

Rythu Bhima facility was also provided to landless dalits. Some of the people (Rajender) termed farmer welfare schemes as peanuts. Why Rajender failed to inform the Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao if he was not interested in Rythu Bandhu, MLC questioned.
