Hyderabad: The Hyderabad Traffic Police booked 1.66 lakh cases against traffic rule violators during a special drive conducted between December 4 and December 11. Around 60,038 cases were booked against those not wearing a helmet, which amounted for the highest number of cases.
City Police Commissioner Anjani Kumar said Traffic police officials from police stations and the City Armed Reserve participated in the special drive. Apart from booking cases against riders of two-wheelers for not wearing helmets, the police booked 27,306 cases against pillion riders for not wearing a helmet. Cases were also booked for wrong side driving, dangerous driving, overspeeding, drunk driving, wrong parking, triple riding, signal jumping and driving without seatbelt.
During the special drive, the police also booked 2,080 cases against persons who were not wearing face masks or inappropriately wearing masks.
