Hyderabad: Doctors at SLG Hospitals, Nizampet on Sunday said they have saved the life of 16-year-old girl who consumed hand sanitizer while attempting to commit suicide. The young girl was first treated for two days in Maharashtra but slipped into coma and was rushed to Hyderabad and admitted to SLG Hospitals.
A severe acid pile up was noticed in the victim’s body and despite flushing the liquid out, there was no immediate improvement, doctors said. To remove the acid load, the doctors carried out dialysis twice and helped the girl recover. But after five days of discharge, the girl was brought back to the hospital as her speech was slurry and she could not even walk. Tests revealed swelling in the brain which was affecting the entire nervous system.
Doctors managed to save the young girl’s life but she may have to struggle with long-term implications on the nervous system. Hospital neurologists, Dr. Abhinay Huchche, Dr. Vijay Varma, along with Dr. Suhasini, Head, ICU, and nursing staff of SLG Hospitals played a key role saving the life of the young girl.
