Hyderabad: A 19-year-old NEET aspirant allegedly died by suicide at her residence in Miyapur in the city on Saturday night.
The student, Sheikh Sana, was preparing for the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET) and was living with her two younger sisters in an apartment in Miyapur. Her father is employed in Kuwait, while her mother had travelled to Proddatur in Andhra Pradesh about 10 days ago.
According to police, Sana was found hanging in her room on Saturday evening. Her sisters, who believed she was studying for the examination, alerted family members and police after they found her hanging in the room.
The police suspect Sana slipped into depression over academic pressure and anxiety. Police said Sana had appeared for NEET last year but was unsuccessful. She later enrolled in long-term coaching and was preparing for the re-examination after appearing for the test held last month. A note purportedly written by Sana stated that no one was responsible for her death.
The body was shifted to Gandhi Hospital for post-mortem examination, and a case has been registered. Police said further investigation is underway.
