Hyderabad: A 25-year-old man who was brutally attacked with iron rods and sticks at Mailardevpally five days ago died while undergoing treatment at a hospital in the city on Sunday.

The victim was identified as Syed Muzammil Hashmi (25), a resident of Shastripuram, in Mailardevpally police station area.

According to the police, on February 17, one Mohd Ghouse called Mohd Areef to his house to discuss an issue related to using a mail account. Areef, along with his friend Fardin Asim, went to the house of Ghouse to discuss the issue. During the discussion, Ghouse and his son allegedly beat Areef and Fardin, following which they ran away from the place

“Fardin later informed his brother Muzammil that some people had beaten him. On coming to know it, Muzammil, along with some friends, reached the house of Ghouse, where around seven persons, including a few local leaders, attacked Muzammil and others with iron rods and sticks, leading to severe injuries,” said Mailardevpally Inspector, B Satyanarayana. The gang also damaged the vehicles of Muzammil and others.

Three persons, Muzammil, Fardin, and Abdul Riyan, who were injured, were shifted to hospital and admitted for treatment. On Sunday, Muzammil, who was battling for life, passed away.

The police, who had registered a case of murder attempt under BNS Act, altered the sections of the case to murder.
