Hyderabad: A total of 2,883 persons were caught by the traffic police in the tri-commissionerates of Hyderabad, Cyberabad and Rachakonda during special checking on the eve of New Year celebrations on Tuesday night.
The highest number of 1,425 persons were caught in Hyderabad, followed by 839 in Cyberabad, while 619 cases were booked in Rachakonda.
The traffic police registered case under various Sections of the Motor Vehicle Act and all of those who were caught have to attend court and face the legal procedure, officials said. On New Year eve, special teams equipped with breath analysers conducted checks at different places across the three Commissionerates.
Additional Commissioner of Police (Traffic) P Vishwa Prasad said the traffic police were deployed in good numbers for the New Year bandobast and the teams conducted the checking between Tuesday 7 pm and to 5 am on Wednesday in the city.
The driving licences of those who were caught during the drunk driving checks were seized and being forwarded to the Road Transport Authorities recommending it be cancelled.
The highest numbers of the persons caught were two-wheeler riders across the three commissionerates and many of those caught were aged between 21 and 30 years.
