Hyderabad: The police department has received as many as 36,000 complaints pertaining to cybercrimes in Hyderabad, Cyberabad and Rachakonda Police Commissionerates in the last two years, according to Telangana Women Safety Wing (WSW).
To contain the increasing number of cybercrimes, the WSW has given special virtual training to students by organising a programme titled cyber congress. WSW Additional Director-General of Police Swathi Lakra and DIG B Sumathi, and School Education Commissioner A Devasena took part in the event.
Swathi Lakra said the women and children were spending more time with mobile phones because of Covid-19 situation and subsequently becoming targets. To prevent these cybercrimes, the WSW is conducting awareness programmes in all the districts by selecting 100 students from 50 educational institutions.
Sumathi said 3,021 cybercrimes cases were registered in Rachakonda Police Commissionerate in 2019 while 3,600 in Hyderabad and 8,000 in Cyberabad. In 2020, as many as 5,860, 6,027 and 8,900 cybercrimes cases were registered in Rachakonda, Hyderabad and Cyberabad Police Commissionerates respectively.
In 2021, 2,000 cases have been booked so far in Rachakonda, while 2,600 cases were booked in Hyderabad and 3,600 cases in Cyberabad.
