Hyderabad: 45-year-old doctor duped of Rs. 1.23 crores by cyber fraudsters in a ‘Digital Arrest’
The victim doctor had received a phone call from an unknown mobile number with the caller claiming that a parcel bound for him contained police uniforms, banned injections and identity cards of police officials
Hyderabad: A 45 year-old doctor from the city was duped of Rs. 1.23 crores by cyber fraudsters in a ‘Digital Arrest‘ scam.
The victim doctor had received a phone call from an unknown mobile number with the caller claiming that a parcel bound for him contained police uniforms, banned injections and identity cards of police officials.
The man then received video calls from fake police officials who threatened to arrest him and asked him to cooperate with them in the investigation. On pretext of the probe, the strangers made several video conference calls to the victim and on pretext of financial verification made him transfer Rs. 1,23,90,510 in multiple transactions.
The victim later realized that he was duped and approached the police who registered a case.
