Hyderabad: Surgeons at Krishna Institute of Medical Sciences (KIMS), Secunderabad conducted a surgery on a 46-year-old woman from Miryalguda who had developed a tumour in a kidney.
While the normal size of the kidneys is 10 cm, due to the growth of the tumour inside the kidney, its size had grown to nearly 20 cm. Due to this, the hospital surgeons conducted ‘a right radical nephrectomy surgery tumour’.
The biopsy of the tumour revealed a rare variant of kidney cancer called spindle cell cancer. Only one percent of the total renal surgeries have such types of cancers,” doctors said.
Senior urologist, KIMS hospitals, Dr Navuluri Upendra Kumar said, “This is a rare type of cancer. The patient couldn’t notice as she didn’t have much pain. The prognosis was not good, which means that the patient has a high chance of recurrence of cancer anywhere in the body. So, she was advised to undergo IL-6 immunotherapy”.
