Hyderabad: The Rachakonda She Teams caught 56 persons on charges of harassing women in the last four weeks. These included a man who posed as an IPS officer and cheated women. A child marriage too was stopped during this period.

Officials said 52 cases including 16 criminal cases were booked. Of the total, 24 persons caught for harassing women were minors. Those caught attended mandatory counseling sessions at the Police Commissioner’s camp office.

In one case, V Hari Prasad, a private employee from Nalgonda, was arrested for harassing and threatening a 30-year-old woman from Jawaharnagar, by posing as an IPS officer posted in the Ministry of Home Affairs. He posted a fake profile on a popular matrimony site impersonating as a cop. He promised to marry the woman and when she grew suspicious, he started threating her.

Apart from this, several persons including minor boys were caught during decoy operations at Choutuppal, Ibrahimpatnam, Vanasthalipuram, Bhongir and LB Nagar. She Teams conducted decoy operations on Metro trains and caught eight persons who intruded into women’s compartment.

Awareness programmes were conducted in rural areas seeking to create awareness on social evils including child marriages, which is yielding good results, they said, adding that the She Teams had so far prevented 119 child marriages.

Rachakonda Police Commissioner Mahesh Bhagwat appreciated the work of She Teams and urged women to approach She Teams through the Rachakonda WhatsApp control number – 9490617111 or Dial 100 in distress.
