Hyderabad: The family of a 47-year-old housewife, Macharla Punnamma, a resident of Nomula, Nakirekal, Nalgonda, who was declared brain dead by doctors, decided to donate her organs to needy patients, as part of State-run Jeevandan organ donation.

On August 26, Punnamma was injured after falling down from an auto and was shifted to a private hospital in Hyderabad. Despite intensive care, her health condition did not improve and doctors declared her brain dead on September 2.
The consent to donate her organs was given by her husband Venkanna and two kidneys, two corneas, liver, lungs and heart were retrieved by the doctors.
