Hyderabad: A seven-year-old boy died while his father is battling for life after the child caught fire accidentally when his father set himself ablaze in a suicide attempt at Keesara, on Saturday.
The boy, DG Yeshwanth, lived along with his father DG Praveen Kumar, at Ahmedguda under Keesara Police Station limits. Praveen does odd jobs for his livelihood.
A few years ago, Praveen’s wife died and since then, he was in depression and wanted to end his life. On Saturday afternoon, Praveen doused himself with fuel while his son was standing a little away from him.
“While Praveen was pouring kerosene on himself, some of it fell on the boy. As soon as Praveen lit the matchstick, the father and son both caught fire,” said Subhan Babu, Sub-Inspector Keesara Police Station.
The locals who doused the flames rushed them to Osmania General Hospital for treatment. In the night, Yeshwanth passed away while undergoing treatment. Praveen is undergoing treatment and his condition is critical, the police added.
A case is registered by the Keesara Police and investigation is ongoing.
