Hyderabad: Two people were injured after a speeding Toyota Fortuner rammed into an i10 car from behind and then crashed into an electricity pole at Peerzadiguda on the Hyderabad–Warangal National Highway on Thursday.
The accident occurred around 7 am near pillar No. 57 of the Uppal–Narapally elevated corridor in Medipally.
The impact caused the i10 to overturn several times and move towards the road divider. The Fortuner subsequently crashed into an electricity pole, which broke and fell onto the vehicle.
According to Medipally police, Sai Shiva (30) and his wife, Meghana (28), were travelling in the i10 from LB Nagar to Narsampet in Warangal district when the Fortuner hit their car from behind. The injured couple were shifted to Ozone Hospital in Chaitanyapuri for treatment.
The accident was captured on nearby CCTV cameras.
Police subsequently identified Akun Sabharwal (29) as the driver of the Fortuner.
According to the complaint, Sabharwal was allegedly driving under the influence of alcohol and did not possess a valid driving licence. The vehicle also reportedly had a fake number plate.
The Medipally police registered a case against the driver and the car owner, Mangilal, for allegedly allowing a person without a valid driving licence to drive the vehicle.
The case is under investigation.
