Hyderabad: The Hyderabad Police have made a major breakthrough in the murder of senior advocate Khaja Moizuddin, arresting six persons, including a city-based Congress leader and his son, for allegedly conspiring to kill the lawyer in a planned attack disguised as a road accident.
According to sources, Congress leader Mahbub Alam Khan and his son Mujahid Alam Khan were taken into custody in Haryana while allegedly trying to escape towards Delhi. The police also arrested the alleged contract killer Kishan Singh, stunt expert Abhijit, Vinay and another accused in connection with the case.
Moizuddin was killed near his residence at Shantinagar, close to Masab Tank, after being run over by an SUV. Initially believed to be a hit-and-run accident, the case took a dramatic turn after investigators examined CCTV footage and gathered technical evidence pointing towards a premeditated murder.
The Nampally Police investigating the case suspect the killing was linked to ongoing disputes over waqf land matters being pursued by the advocate.
Police believe the suspect considered Moizuddin an obstacle in land related issues and allegedly arranged a contract killing to eliminate him.
Police sources said the conspiracy was carefully planned to resemble a routine traffic accident and avoid immediate suspicion. The accused allegedly hired a racer to carry out the attack.
Police officials have not officially disclosed complete details of the investigation but are expected to share details soon regarding the arrests and the alleged conspiracy behind the murder.
