Hyderabad: Advocates of the Telangana High Court abstained from work on Tuesday in response to the brutal daylight murder of advocate Errabapu Esrayal.
They organised a rally that began with a march onto the main road in front of the High Court.
The protestors carried placards and banners demanding the implementation of an Advocates Protection Act.
Senior Advocate V Raghunath addressed the crowd, emphasising the urgency of the situation. He referred to the growing list of advocate murders in the State, citing past victims whose deaths highlighted the increasing vulnerability of legal professionals in Telangana.
Raghunath stressed that these attacks were not isolated incidents but part of a disturbing trend that calls for immediate legislative action.
“Advocates are officers of the court, and they play a critical role in ensuring the administration of justice for the greater good of society. Their safety cannot be compromised,” Raghunath stated. He further urged both the central and state governments to take immediate steps to safeguard the lives of advocates, warning that failure to do so would lead to further lawlessness and injustice.
One advocate participating in the rally said: “We cannot continue working in an environment where our lives are constantly at risk. The government must enact a protection act to ensure the safety of every lawyer in this State.”
