Hyderabad: A Hyderabad-based manufacturing agency has made the country’s largest national flag (120*80 dimensions) that was hoisted at Hospet in Karnataka on the occasion of Independence Day on Saturday. The flag, which weighs 100-kgs, was stitched by Flags and Poles using polyester cloth specially brought from Surat in Gujarat.

Patriotic fervour gripped Hospet as a large number of locals thronged the municipal ground to witness and record the hoisting of the country’s largest national flag on a 420-ft-tall flagpole.

Sharing details of the quality and dimensions with ‘Telangana Today’, Flags and Poles founder K Padmavathi said they have used suitable and high-quality cloth for stitching the country’s largest national flag.

“The speciality of the cloth is that it does not wrinkle, shrink or fade easily. It keeps the flag’s shape intact and dries fast. Another interesting aspect is the cloth’s durability that lasts long and can withstand strong winds,” she explained.

The agency took one week to stitch the gigantic flag, following all dimensions prescribed in the Flag Code of Rules 2002. After completion, the flag was transported from Hyderabad to Hospet, a 380 kms journey, and delivered two days before Independence Day.

“The gigantic national flag is hoisted on a 420-ft-tall flagpole, making it one of the tallest flag installations in the country. This is a proud moment for my family who took responsibility,” said Padmavathi.

K Srikanth, elder son of Padmavathi, extended his technical expertise for setting up the tall flagpole and said, “I feel proud that the country’s largest national flag, which my family stitched, was hoisted amid hundreds of people of Hospet.”
