Hyderabad: Doctors at the Asian Institute of Nephrology & Urology (AINU), Banjara Hills on Sunday that they have successfully removed a massive, 20 cm pumpkin-sized kidney tumor from a 53-year-old patient from Kurnool.

The patient was admitted to AINU with abdominal swelling, weakness, and loss of appetite. Examinations revealed a large mass arising from the right kidney that occupied the entire right half of the abdominal cavity, severely displacing his intestines.

Led by Dr. Purnachandra Reddy and Dr. Rajesh Kumar Reddy, the surgical team stabilized the patient before performing an Open Radical Nephrectomy. Given the tumor’s immense size and precarious location, the procedure required meticulous planning and extreme surgical precision to safely identify and divide blood vessels before removing the growth.

Post-surgery, the patient recovered well. Subsequent tests confirmed the tumor was cancerous. Dr. Rajesh Kumar Reddy noted that the case was exceptionally complex due to the sheer scale of the mass. This successful intervention highlights the advanced surgical capabilities at AINU in managing critical urological conditions.
