Hyderabad: The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) launched a massive exercise across the State capital for the smooth conduct of the upcoming Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations. This year the ten-day festival will commence on September 10 and conclude with idol immersion on September 19.
Filling potholes on the procession route, arranging 330 cranes (static and mobile) and distributing clay idols are some of the works that are underway. The State government through line departments is roping in agencies that provide crane services for idol immersion with an estimate of Rs 10 crore. The 122 static and 208 mobile cranes will be deployed across the city at major lakes and artificial ponds.
Crane service providers have been given strict instructions. The agency that will be awarded the contract at Tank Bund to facilitate idol immersion shall provide an adequate number of sandbags and ensure that the recently developed amenities including the designer lamps and pavements are not damaged.
“If new infrastructure is damaged, the responsibility of replacing it with the same material lies with the agencies. If they fail to do so, payments will not be released,” a GHMC official said.
Meanwhile, a series of meetings were held recently in GHMC head office and GHMC zonal offices. Ganesh pandal organisers and members of Ganesh committees discussed various issues related to the festival and idol immersion. GHMC officials asked the organisers of major pandals to arrange masks, sanitisers at the pandals and ensure the Covid-19 guidelines are followed.
Environmental conservation initiatives are also underway. Special Chief Secretary Urban Development, Arvind Kumar tweeted the locations where beneficiaries can collect free eco-friendly Ganesh clay idols.
“HMDA distributes 70, 000 clay Ganesha idols free of cost at your doorstep. For additional requests (Minimum of 200 idols), please DM @HMDA_Gov or contact 9000627611 & we will send mobile camp,” he tweeted.
