Hyderabad: Reflecting the timeless Yuletide spirit of giving, sharing, and togetherness, families in Hyderabad and Secunderabad immersed themselves in Christmas joy and revelry on Wednesday midnight and all through Thursday.
In the midst of chilly wintry nights and equally cold early hours, the city’s historic churches were literally packed to the rafters. The century-old historical and architectural marvels in Hyderabad and Secunderabad echoed with the music from the carols and the dedicated choir groups.
The Christmas celebrations commenced with the specially scheduled midnight mass on Wednesday, where beautifully decked-up churches drew hundreds of devotees. Long queues formed as the faithful gathered to witness the solemn yet festive commemoration of the birth of Jesus Christ.
On Thursday morning, families made a steady beeline to churches to attend special Christmas Day services and exchange warm greetings. Crowds attired in their festive best thronged to St. Mary’s Church Basilica, SD Road, All Saints Church, Trimulgherry, Holy Trinity Church, Bolarum, St. George’s Church, Basheerbagh, St. Joseph’s Cathedral, Gunfoundry, Church of St. John the Baptist, East Marredpally among others.
The Christmas cheer extended far beyond church walls. Malls, commercial hubs, and private offices throughout Hyderabad were tastefully decorated, creating a city-wide festive glow. In residential neighborhoods, apartments and independent homes were tastefully decorated with Christmas lights and the iconic ‘Star of Bethlehem’.
