Hyderabad: A group of artists from the city adopted nine tortoises at the Nehru Zoological Park (NZP) for a period of one year. As part of the novel initiative, on Tuesday, senior artist and curator, Bolgum Nagesh Goud, who led the group, handed over a cheque worth Rs 2.70 lakh to Curator, Nehru Zoological Park, S Rajashekar.

Nagesh Goud had organised a sculpture show titled ‘Kurma’ on January 21 and 22 at the State Art Gallery in Madhapur and 15 artists participated in the event. In the exhibition, the sculptures of tortoises painted by 15 well-known Indian artists were showcased and later sold to buyers. The proceeds from the event were handed over to the zoo authorities towards adoption of the tortoises.

In 2020, Goud curated the exhibition Gaja that showcased 25 painted sculptures of elephants and contributed Rs 3.5 lakh from the sales proceeds for the upkeep of elephant Sita at the zoo park. The Curator, Nehru Zoological Park, S Rajashekar, Hyderabad thanked the artists who came forward to promote wildlife conservation.
