Hyderabad: An Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) posted at Punjagutta police station reportedly fell victim to a cyber fraud and lost nearly Rs 50,000, after fraudsters sent him a fake RTA challan APK file.

According to information available, the officer noticed multiple alerts on his phone on June 8 and later found unauthorised transactions from his bank account.

He immediately reported the matter to the national cybercrime helpline number 1930. Cybercrime police have registered a case and are investigating.

Officials have advised the public not to download APK files or click on suspicious links received purportedly as traffic challans or government services.
