Hyderabad: Attempt to murder case registered against Chaderghat robber
A robber tried to attack DCP (South East) S Chaitanya Kumar and his PSO in Chaderghat after a robbery chase from Koti. The DCP fired two rounds, injuring the suspect, who was later arrested. Police are searching for his two aides
Hyderabad: The Sultan Bazaar police registered an attempt to murder case against the robber who tried to attack the DCP (south east) and his personal security officer (PSO) at Chaderghat on Saturday.
The DCP, S Chaitanya Kumar, was returning to his office at Saidabad after attending a meeting at the old Police Commissioner’s office at Basheerbagh around 5 pm. On reaching Koti, the driver of the DCP’s vehicle, Sandeep, noticed three persons in an auto rickshaw attempting to snatch a mobile phone of a man.
The DCP and his team chased the auto rickshaw from Koti to Esamia Bazaar traffic signal. After getting down from the vehicle, the official and his PSO chased the auto rickshaw.
“The driver, Murthy, and the DCP caught hold of the robber, later identified as Mohd Omer Ansari. However, he pushed them away and tried to escape. The gun of the PSO had fallen on the ground and the DCP collected it,” said an official of Sultan Bazaar police station. The remaining two persons fled away in the auto rickshaw.
The chase continued as the robber and police entered the lanes of the Esamia Bazaar, a residential locality. “Ansari entered a two-storied building and reached the second floor and from there jumped onto the terrace of the adjacent building to escape. To nab him, the gunman too jumped on the terrace and tried to catch him. In his attempt to escape, Ansari tried to attack the PSO with the knife. At this point of time, the DCP who was carrying the pistol fired two rounds at Ansari. The man, despite the bullet injuries, jumped from the building and ran into the Victory Playground,” said the official.
The police later caught him and shifted him to a private hospital at Banjara Hills for treatment. The police teams are making efforts to nab the other two associates of Ansari.
