Hyderabad: Attention diversion gang held
Tolichowki police arrested five members of a gang that duped people by luring them with fake cryptocurrency deals. They recovered Rs 7.55 lakh. The gang used attention diversion tactics to steal money and had cheated at least two victims
Hyderabad: Five members of an attention diversion gang were arrested by the Tolichowki police on Monday. The police recovered Rs 7.55 lakh cash from them.
The arrested are Mohd Bilal, Mohd Abdul Azam, Mohd Iqbal, Mohd Jameel Ahmed and Syed Maaz Hussaini. Four others, Abdul Shahed, Syed Kaleel Ahmed, Mohd Akhil Ahmed and Syed Irfan, are absconding.
According to the police, a man, P Sai Prasad Reddy, came in contact with Maaz on social media as the former was interested in buying cryptocurrency.
Maaz told Prasad that one of his friends Irfan, was interested in selling the cryptocurrency and asked him to come to Paramount colony.
“On the pretext of negotiating the deal, the gang took Prasad to an office in the colony. Later, after diverting his attention, they took away cash of 6.40 lakh and fled,” said G Chandra Mohan, DCP (west).
The gang had cheated another person in a similar manner of Rs 5.31 lakh.
