Hyderabad: Hyderabad-based math edtech startup Bhanzu raised $2 million (about Rs 15 crore) in seed funding led by venture capital firm Lightspeed and multiple angel investors. It plans to use the fresh capital to scale its live classes across the US, Canada, UK and Middle East as well as to boost hiring across technology and product operations.
The startup is founded by Neelakantha Bhanu, who holds four world records for being the fastest human calculator. Bhanu is working with schools, educationists, and policymakers to promote cognitive ability development education programmes in an effort to eradicate global math phobia.
“Having spent more than four years teaching math across the world, I have realised that building relevance and sparking curiosity in students leads to unprecedented learning outcomes. I started Bhanzu to revolutionise learning by making math fun and equipping students. Bhanzu has already helped thousands of students realise their true potential. We are on our pathway to achieve the same, at a global scale,” said Bhanu.
By building fundamentals, students learn STEM subjects with ease. They are also being introduced to technology, art, science, music, coding and AI through the lens of math, he said.
“We have been awed by his journey from being a math enthusiast and educator to an entrepreneur and we back his vision to rethink how kids across the globe learn math,” said Shuvi Srivastava, Lightspeed Vice President.
