Hyderabad: Dental surgeons from city-based Sarita Implants and Aesthetic Dentistry (SIAD) said they have managed to perform a permanent fixed dentures procedure in the lower jaw of a 65-year-old woman within a short-time of 24 hours.
The woman was struggling with edentulousness, a condition of lack of teeth in the lower arch, and had approached SIAD seeking help. “We adopted a digitally-driven procedure where we placed straight five implants in the lower jaw and restored it with permanent prosthesis,” Dr Akash, Managing Director, SIAD said.
Conventional method of taking impression and then preparing dentures, was also a feasible option. “However, it would take at least four to six months for the permanent denture to be fixed and the patient has to make regular visits to the hospital. Considering the patient’s age and Covid risk, we adopted this fool-proof workflow that enabled us to go from no-teeth to full permanent set within 24 hours,” he said.
Narrating her experience, the patient D Sukanya said that due to loss of teeth, she had lost confidence to interact with people. “I had approached several dentists but was only offered removable prosthetic options. It was at this juncture I contacted SIAD and underwent the procedure. I feel normal now and have no swelling or pain,” she said.
