Hyderabad: Hyderabad-based Doosra is expanding its presence and user base in India, with an aim to touch one million downloads by 2022-end. The company is also going to invest in product innovation to provide comprehensive protection to the users.

A first-of-its-kind solution, Doosra is a 10-digit, SIM-free mobile number, which users can share at any place where they are compelled to share their personal mobile number including on digital platforms.

Aditya Vuchi, founder & CEO, Doosra told Telangana Today, “We are expanding our reach through wide ranging digital channels. With over 1,00,000 downloads on Play Store, Doosra has blocked over 7,00,000 calls and 2.5 million messages from more than 50,000 telemarketers in the last one year. By the end of 2022, the company is aiming for one million downloads.”

Doosra provides a SIM-free virtual mobile number, which users can use in situations where they are required to share their personal mobile number. All incoming calls to the Doosra number are either automatically blocked or sent to voicemail.

He further explains, the company is focused on privacy and there is no data monetisation. The revenue is primarily through subscriptions. Not only common users, but solopreneurs / small businesses also are finding Doosra useful. Business customers are finding the voicemail feature beneficial.

“There is a real danger in keeping the mobile numbers in public domain. Many use cases are emerging for us, and we continue to explore how we can cater to them. Users such as CEOs and celebrities feel highly secure when they use our services. Going forward, we will expand our reach further to CXOs to provide them secure numbers,” he added.

When asked how different Doosra in its category is, he said, the major advantage or differentiation is that the platform does not seek access to contact book of a user unlike other caller verification apps/platforms. Doosra takes explicit permissions for limited data access that it seeks. The company ensures that its platform is secured and the data linkages from the primary number to the Doosra number are stored in fragmented places. All SMSes are encrypted and can be decrypted only on the user’s device.

Launched in September 2020, Doosra was bootstrapped by Aditya Vuchi until the recent seed round led by Omidyar Network India. Depending on the need to further accelerate the growth, the company may raise more funds in near future, he informed.
