Hyderabad: Art is always seen as something therapeutic and something that gives a massive sense of peace to the ones who practise it, irrespective of the motive behind it, and for city-based IT professional and artist Poojitha Reddy Tondooru, it has been the same.
In fact, for her, art is something that gives her peace to such an extent that regardless of the potential, she doesn’t want to take it up commercially. The artist, who runs the Instagram handle dear.artiste, specialises in a wide range of media, from pencils to graphite to ink and an interesting part of her art is that most of it depict out-of-the-world fantasy elements.
However, art wasn’t something she did from her childhood, as she says, “I used to be good at science drawings in school and much later in life, years after I started working in IT, I started doodling and scribbling in the office, just out of my imagination. That is why after three years of regular drawing, my drawings are always fantastical.”
The 28-year-old also had a dream of doing her mother’s portrait and she subsequently enrolled herself in art classes to learn portraits. “I enrolled for a month but I didn’t learn much and I also realised portraits are hard to do because facial features are very nuanced. Though I did a lot of realistic art, I started doing fantasy more, directly from my imagination,” says the artist who also painted murals in several government schools in the city.
Small experiences, like seeing a crab on a beach or going to a hill also served as inspiration for her and the same reflects if one sees her work on her Instagram and a key element of her works is that all her works have a balance of positivity and negativity, just like life.
“There’s one sketch of mine where a beautiful girl is seen with a mask and she is breaking apart. The girl is beautiful and confident but because of the ongoing pandemic, she is breaking down on the inside. My other works depict the same as well,” says Poojitha, adding, “That is also one of the reasons I don’t do commissioned art as when it is commissioned, it limits my imagination and my extent.”
