Hyderabad: Rachakonda police arrested a Bihar native for illegally possessing country-made firearms and live ammunition, seizing three weapons, 10 live rounds, and a mobile phone at Charlapalli on Thursday.
Following a tip-off, the Special Operations Team (SOT) of Malkajgiri Zone, along with Charlapalli police, apprehended Shiv Kumar (32) near Charlapalli railway station.
Police said Shiv Kumar, a daily wage worker residing in Pedda Charlapalli, has a criminal record and was previously booked in a drug case for allegedly selling marijuana-laced chocolates.
“During a recent visit to his native village in Bihar for Raksha Bandhan, he allegedly conspired with his absconding brother-in-law, Krishna Paswan, to procure weapons illegally for sale in Hyderabad for easy money,” said G. Sudheer Babu, Police Commissioner, Rachakonda.
Charlapalli police have registered a case under the Arms Act.
Rachakonda police appealed to the public to report any illegal possession or sale of firearms, warning that such offences carry severe prison terms and fines.
