Hyderabad Birding Pals to distribute one lakh pocket guides on birds of Telangana

The guide features pictures of 252 bird species out of 443 birds recorded in the State so far. Apart from the students, the pocket guides will also be distributed to forest guards and bird enthusiasts who are completely new to bird watching

Sangareddy: The Hyderabad Birding Pals (HBP), a well-known birding community in Telangana, is preparing to educate students of government schools and colleges, from Class 6 to intermediate, in the State on the conservation of avifaunal diversity by distributing a pocket guide on “Birds of Telangana” to them.

The HBP will distribute over one lakh pocket guides over the next year, beginning in December. Thirty members of the HBP have joined hands to bring out the “Birds of Telangana” pocket guide, which is the first of its kind of work on avifaunal diversity of the State.

The guide features pictures of 252 bird species out of 443 birds recorded in the State so far. Apart from the students, the pocket guides will also be distributed to forest guards and bird enthusiasts who are completely new to bird watching.

Speaking to Telangana Today, Sriram Reddy, a core committee member of the work, said they wanted to educate the students across the State on the need for the conservation of birds and other wildlife, water bodies and grasslands by distributing the pocket guides.

They were also planning to organise awareness programmes while distributing these pocket guides, he said.

The HBP got the pocket guide launched by Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka. Soon, they will launch the distribution of pocket guides programme in a government school in Khammam.

Sriram Reddy, Kishore Bakshi, Gopalakrishna R, Naresh Vadrevu, Hari Adepu, Kalyan Ineni, Phanikrishna and Rajeev played a key role in bringing out the pocket guide while pictures by 30 birders were used.
