Hyderabad: Tense moments unfolded at the Rajiv Gandhi International (RGI) Airport on Sunday after a Hyderabad-bound flight from Germany received a bomb threat.

The flight LH 752, operated by Lufthansa Airlines, was en route from Frankfurt Airport to Hyderabad Airport when the crew was alerted about a potential bomb on board. According to the airlines website, the aircraft is a Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner.

The aircraft was airborne and flying over Bulgarian airspace. Following standard security protocols and after obtaining clearance from Air Traffic Control the aircraft turned back and safely landed at Frankfurt Airport under full security measures.

The passenger flight departed from Germany around 14.14 local time Sunday and was scheduled to land at Hyderabad’s Rajiv Gandhi International Airport early Monday but flight tracker data showed a diversion a few hours into the flight.

The incident has triggered panic among the relatives of passengers who were expecting the flight’s arrival in Hyderabad. The RGI Airport authorities have confirmed the developments.

A passenger on board the flight told PTI from Frankfurt Airport that they were being provided overnight accommodation as their flight was rescheduled for Monday morning.

“We just landed back in Frankfurt around 15 minutes ago and all we were told is that Hyderabad hasn’t given permission to land the flight there,” said the female passenger en route from the US to visit her mother in Hyderabad.
