A eight-year-old boy was killed after an Army truck allegedly rammed into a two-wheeler at the RK Puram flyover in Neredmet on Wednesday. The child’s mother was seriously injured and is undergoing treatment at a private hospital.
Hyderabad: A tragic road accident claimed the life of an eight-year-old school student and left his mother seriously injured at Neredmet here on Wednesday morning.
The incident occurred around 8 am on the Officers Colony road near R K Puram, when Neelang Tamang (32), a resident of Officers Colony, Neredmet, was taking her son Nizen Tamang, a Class III student of Army Public School in R K Puram, to school on her scooter.
According to the police, when proceeding along the road, the scooter suddenly skidded, causing both the mother and child to fall onto the road. At the same time, an Army vehicle – an Ashok Leyland modified school bus, which was coming from behind, ran over the child.
While Nizen Tamang died on the spot due to severe injuries, Neelang Tamang suffered grievous injuries in the accident and was immediately shifted to the Army Hospital, where she is currently undergoing treatment. Based on a complaint lodged by the child’s maternal uncle, Raju Tamang, the Neredmet police have registered a case and taken up an investigation.
Police Commissioner urges caution:
Describing the incident as an irreparable loss, Hyderabad Police Commissioner VC Sajjanar said the tragedy serves as a painful reminder of the need for greater caution on roads.
He warned that heavy vehicles such as lorries, buses and Army trucks have dangerous blind spots, making it difficult for drivers to notice smaller vehicles nearby and advised motorists to maintain a safe distance. He cautioned against overtaking heavy vehicles from the left side under any circumstances.
