Hyderabad: British educator Claire Horsburgh leads teacher workshop on joyful learning

Claire, who has been associated with Oxford University Press for over a decade, remarked that the Indian education sector is undergoing a rapid transformation, with the government’s new NCF playing a key role in driving this change. "As an educator and author, I’ve witnessed how language can open doors and bridge cultures. This has shaped my career and provided valuable insights into what motivates learners. Every learning journey is unique, and resources should evolve to match individual progress, enabling teachers to tailor their approach. Remember, learning is a lifelong process, and it’s okay not to get everything right the first time," she added.

Hyderabad: British author and educator Claire Horsburgh conducted a teacher training workshop, where she focused on joyful learning pedagogy as outlined in the Ministry of Education’s new National Curriculum Framework (NCF-2023), here on Thursday.

Claire, who is associated with Oxford University Press for more than a decade, said the Indian education sector was undergoing rapid transformation, and the government’s new NCF was catalyzing this change
“As an educator and author, I’ve seen how language can unlock opportunities and connect cultures. This experience has shaped my career and given me insights into what motivates learners. Each learning journey is unique, and resources should adapt to individual progress, helping teachers personalize their approach. Remember, it’s okay not to get it right the first time—learning is a lifelong process,” Claire said.

She stressed the importance of building core competencies in students, including listening, speaking, reading, writing, vocabulary, and grammar. She also emphasized developing 21st-century skills and higher-order thinking skills. Additionally, she highlighted holistic learning, pride in Indian literary heritage, experiential learning through activity-based tasks, art integration, and projects designed to engage learners and help them develop cross-curricular connections and life skills. The workshop was chaired by Santyendra Bhadauria, Regional Sales Director, OUP.
